About Zhengzhou, Henan, China
Zhengzhou (pronounced Jung Joe) is a city of 12 million people in
the heart of China, 640 km (400 miles) south of Beijing and 830 km (515 miles) west of Shanghai. It is located in the Henan Province,
the province which feeds most of China, and is surrounded by
640 km (400 miles) of farmland in all directions. It is the fastest growing city in China and one of the most polluted cities in the world.
Pollution is prevalent throughout China due to rampant expansion and lack of regulations, as well as a high dependence on coal.
It is so bad that smoke is a weather condition.
However, to address this high-priority issue, the Southern Hami- Zhengzhou Project is expected to be completed by 2014 and to significantly reduce pollution, and will be a new world record.
